Service DescriptionThe curriculum for Management of <strong>Health</strong> <strong>System</strong>s involves a variety of formats toachieve over 100 hours of instruction in both the didactic and the practical settings. Asummary of hours can be found below under item 11.1. Intern Orientation ActivitiesAll interns receive at least 15 hours of health systems management training during a twoweek orientation period.a Department Director MeetingsInterns meet with inpatient and outpatient department directors, learning thepolicies and procedures of each department. They learn how to work with andlead the ancillary staff of the hospital and clinic.b OCEP TrainingDuring orientation time, interns also participate in OCEP training (OnlineCompliance Education Program). This three-hour training provides training inareas of:i. Complianceii. Billingiii. Ethics, including review of fraud and abuse laws2. Medical Staff Quality Improvement Meetings and Presentations<strong>Resident</strong>s participate in several medical staff meetings and presentations, including themonthly Perinatal Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Friday Grand Rounds, andJournal Club, and weekly Morning Report. During these presentations, residents discussand receive feedback from the residency faculty and medical staff on case presentationsand quality care improvement. <strong>Resident</strong>s participate by developing and providingpresentations which are evaluated by faculty physicians and medical staff physicians.<strong>Resident</strong>s also evaluate presentations provided by community and faculty physicians.3. Inpatient <strong>Resident</strong> Physician Assessment and Evaluation TrainingSenior residents evaluate junior residents for all inpatient rotations, including OB, Peds,and Internal Medicine. <strong>Resident</strong>s also evaluate their attending physicians regarding thequality of instruction provided.4. <strong>Health</strong> <strong>System</strong>s Management Training at MFHCThis training has several components through all three years of residency training asoutlined below.a. Clinic Staff Team Training and Billing EducationInterns spend two hours observing and learning the role of each member of thefront office and nursing staff. This experience allows them to better know eachmember of the healthcare team and how they function in the clinic. They alsoreceive instruction regarding outpatient billing.b.
