A. Service GoalsAs a second and third year rotation, the gynecology experience is intended to strengthenresident’s knowledge base and skills in the wide range of primary care gynecologycomplaints seen by a family doctor. <strong>Resident</strong>s are expected to achieve the full set ofdefined Gynecology Competencies during this rotation. (See also Residency Goals andCompetencies)B. Service DescriptionThe various experiences in gynecology occur at SCHC, MFHC, and private offices andare described in the Clinic II Rotation. See above.A. Service GoalsINTENSIVE CARE UNITThe Intensive Care Rotation in the first year is intended to immerse the resident in thecritical care setting to understand guidelines for appropriate admission, manage criticallyill patients, and obtain procedural experience under supervision. (See also ResidencyGoals and Competencies)B. Service Description:C. DutiesEach first year resident spends two weeks in the ICU and will work with one preceptorfor one week at a time. <strong>Resident</strong>s will round on all assigned patients, write appropriatenotes, and participate in procedures. <strong>Resident</strong>s also gain ICU experience while rotatingon the internal medicine service.Work up all assigned patients, review with the intensivists, and write daily notes in thechart. Conduct daily rounds and see patients as needed. Report all significant changes incondition to the attending.Attend Trauma Rounds in the STICU Tuesday mornings from 8-9am and Critical CareRounds in the ICU at RMC on Thursday mornings at 9am.Complete all required readings and be prepared to present/discuss with the intensivistduring the tutorials.Participate in patient transports (at least once) and work with respiratory carepractitioners and nurses in providing daily patient care.<strong>Resident</strong>s should keep a log in New Innovations of ICU patients cared for and theirdiagnoses as well as procedures performed.Page 51 of 153C:\Documents and Settings\dhutak\Desktop\rshb13.doc
