Most speakers have put a great dealof effort into preparing their talks and their time should be respected. Residents who attend lessthan 80% of conferences over a four month average will be assigned to provide a talk for internconference. The 80% rule takes into account excuses which residents must submit by contactingPenny or Stacy in the residency office within 48 hours. Acceptable excuses include post call, outof town rotations, vacation time, and urgent patient care needs.Residents and faculty members may offer suggestions for conference topics to the noonconference coordinator, Steve Namihas, MD.Page 84 of 153CONTINUITY POLICYThe Mercy Redding Family Practice Residency Program considers continuity care to be anintegral component of family medicine and residency education. As health care team members,we also recognize that coverage for colleagues who are unavailable (due to illness, vacation, etc.)is imperative for timely and appropriate patient care. The following continuity policy has beenestablished taking into consideration PTO, away electives and coverage for colleagues.1. Clinic Continuity:a. The program has set a clinic continuity goal of at least 50% for each resident.FPS, C1 and C2 rotations will not be included in these calculations since theresident on these services are expected to see a greater number of work-inpatients.b. If a monthly clinic audit shows that a resident drops below 55%, Shawn Knauss, the Clinic Data Coordinator will email the report to the resident as well as theProgram Director and the resident’s Academic Advisor. The Clinic Manager andClinic Director will receive copies as well.c. The resident will be encouraged to take new patients into their clinic fromhospital rotations and / or from the Orange New Patient sheets found in thepreceptor room.d. If no improvement is noted the following month, the Clinic Management Teamwill begin to assign additional patients to resident from the Orange Sheets untilthe goal is met.2. Hospital Continuity:a. The program has set a hospital continuity goal of at least 80% for each residentwho has continuity patients in the hospital receiving care on the Family PracticeService. Residents will be excused if out of town.C:\Documents and Settings\dhutak\Desktop\rshb13.doc
