It alsoencourages artistic experiments that attempt to cross over artistic fields.Goals To nurture a new generation of artists and writers in the Arab region. To stimulate dialogue among intellectuals and artists on important cultural issues. To encourage Arab businesses to support the independent cultural sector. To promote cooperation among Arab artists and writers and between them and theircounterparts in the developing world.Funding sourcesAl Mawred Al Thaqafy is funded primarily by: The Ford Foundation Open Society Institute European Cultural Foundation The Royal Netherlands Embassy UNESCO Donations from supporters of culture are also an important source of funding.Eligible countriesAll countries in the Arab region are eligible. However, the organization can also support culturalexchange projects in developing countries.Who can receive a grant?The Production Awards program is designed to support: Young Arab artists and creators Promoters of small cultural projects in the fields of management, production and marketing Cultural organizations or independent cultural groups22
Grant sizeEach program has a minimum and maximum allowable.Recent grants Abbara: raises the level of competence of 25 independent cultural organisations within 2years. Focus will be on administrative and organisational aspects and ensuring the stability ofthese organisations (min: €18,000, max: €37,000) The Egypt Spaces Initiative The Production Awards program is designed to support young Arab artists under the age of 35in the fields of literature, music, video, film, theatre, and visual arts (max: €3,700) The Mawa3eed program, launched in 2006, is a fund for partially financing travel expenses ofup to max: €3,700 for Arab artists to present artistic work or to take part in cultural and artisticevents and activities at multiple, diverse cultural spaces in the region Research projects on cultural policies in eight Arab countries Cultural Journalism Training WorkshopApplication procedureAl Mawred Al Thaqafy resorts to annual calls for tender.
