Democratic Republic of Congo: Africalia supprts four local organizations: K<strong>in</strong> Label : promotion of comics TACCEMS : The group TACCEMS is a center of creation, exchange and show design based<strong>in</strong> Kisangani. This non-<strong>for</strong> profit organization br<strong>in</strong>gs together artists from different backgroundsconcerned about the creation, the spread and promotion of cultural work. The Tarmac des Auteurs strive <strong>for</strong> universal access to the arts and the works of contemporaryauthors through tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, dissem<strong>in</strong>ation and awarenessKenya: four partners, funded by Africalia, are <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> differents aspects of culture: Hot Sun Foundation is a non-profit organization based <strong>in</strong> Kibera, a slum <strong>in</strong> Nairobi, Kenya.They provide the way to the children of the slum to share their stories with the world. Throughvideos, films, stories, theatre and music the tra<strong>in</strong>ees of the Kibera Film School capture all thecolor and variety of their lives and their community. Slum TV is a grassroots media organisation based <strong>in</strong> Mathare, a large slum <strong>in</strong> Nairobi, Kenya.The basic premise beh<strong>in</strong>d the project is to provide the community of Mathare with a means ofdocument<strong>in</strong>g and represent<strong>in</strong>g what is happen<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the neighbourhood, primarily <strong>for</strong> the localaudience, but also <strong>for</strong> an <strong>in</strong>ternational public. The Mwelu Foundation is a self-help group operat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the Mathare Valley slum of Nairobi, itsis to nurture the talent of children <strong>in</strong> the poorest communities of Nairobi by provid<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>creative arts and essential life skills. By provid<strong>in</strong>g children with a voice and promot<strong>in</strong>geducation they hope to break the cycle of poverty and violence that exists <strong>in</strong> theircommunities. KURUKA MAISHA (“jump <strong>in</strong>to life”) is an Arts School <strong>for</strong> Street Children. It was developed onthe premise that artistic activities help Street Children <strong>in</strong> numerous ways. The school offersclasses <strong>in</strong> visual arts and per<strong>for</strong>m<strong>in</strong>g arts such as Acrobatics, African traditional andcontemporary dance, Capoiera, Drama, F<strong>in</strong>e art and Music.41
