Hot Docs-Blue Ice Group Documentary FundMa<strong>in</strong> OfficeHot Docs – Blue Ice Film Documentary Fund110 Spad<strong>in</strong>a Avenue, Suite 333Toronto, ON M5V 2K4Tel: 416.203.2155/ 416.203.0446Email: <strong>in</strong>fo@hotdocs.caWebsitehttp://www.hotdocs.ca/funds/hot_docs_blue_ice_film_documentary_fund_guidel<strong>in</strong>esPurpose and program areasThe Hot Docs-Blue Ice Group Documentary Fund is a grant program provid<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>ancial support toAfrican documentary filmmakers <strong>in</strong> development and production.In addition to fund<strong>in</strong>g, the <strong>in</strong>itiative also offers valuable resources to support production andprofessional development, and provides opportunities <strong>for</strong> filmmakers to access the <strong>in</strong>ternationaldocumentary community.<strong>Sources</strong> of fund<strong>in</strong>gThe Canadian Government and other miscellaneous sources.Eligible countriesNom<strong>in</strong>ations are open to professional filmmakers who are citizens and residents of cont<strong>in</strong>ental Africaand who live and work <strong>in</strong> the region.Who can apply?In order <strong>for</strong> an applicant to be eligible <strong>for</strong> support, the applicant must:• Be the primary rights holder of the project;• Be the director or producer attached with the film project.In all cases both the director and producer must:• Hold citizenship, primary residence and work primarily <strong>in</strong> Africa.• Have at least one previous professional credit to their name.In order <strong>for</strong> a project to be eligible <strong>for</strong> support, the project must:• Be produced and shot <strong>in</strong> Africa;• Be either a feature or broadcast length documentary (shorts, series and fiction pieces are noteligible);• Be of high quality and suitable <strong>for</strong> theatrical release and/or television broadcast to audiencesboth locally and <strong>in</strong>ternationally.Amount of subsidiesDevelopment category:The Hot Docs-Blue Ice Group Documentary Fund will provide successful applicants with aDevelopment grant of between $3,000 and $8,000 CDN which could reflect up to 100% of thedevelopment budget. Grant money must be spent <strong>in</strong> the region on development activities and preproduction.Eligible costs <strong>in</strong>clude research, development of a script and story proposal and productionof a teaser or trailer. Other eligible costs may <strong>in</strong>clude production of pitch and market<strong>in</strong>g materials,community engagement strategy research as well as distribution strategy research.50
