4.2 Population densityAn unusually dense area, mainlybecause <strong>of</strong> its central city<strong>Greater</strong> Montréal is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North Americanmetropolitan areas with <strong>the</strong> highest population density.The central city <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> area (<strong>the</strong> city <strong>of</strong> Montréal) is verydense and is home to a large proportion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> area’spopulation; its housing features a greater share <strong>of</strong> duplexand triplex row housing and a lower proportion <strong>of</strong> singlefamilyhomes.
