7.16 The selection criteria will be applied objectively by a senior managerappointed by the HABU <strong>and</strong> an HR specialist (HRBP, HR Adviser, RO etc.)7.17 The selection criteria applied <strong>and</strong> the processes adopted will be carefullymonitored by the RC in consultation with the DTUS/Agency TUs to ensurethat they are fair <strong>and</strong> equitable.7.18 Individuals will have the right to detailed feedback on how they performedagainst the selection criteria.7.19 Once the selection criteria have been applied individuals, who have not beenappointed, will be informed in writing by the RO (or DM if a RO is notappointed – see DM responsibilities) ( letter 4) <strong>and</strong> may appeal against thisdecision in accordance with the Appeals procedure.7.20 These employees will then be registered on the RR to help them redeploywithin the Defra Network <strong>and</strong> the wider Civil Service.7.21 The RO/DM will confirm their registration, what this will mean to them <strong>and</strong> thetimescales involved in a letter (letter 5).Site closures7.22 When organisational change may result in a site closure the usualconsultation process with local trade unions <strong>and</strong> affected employees will becarried out as early as possible. Depending on the size/location of theredundancy unit <strong>and</strong> the local circumstances, surplus employees may beoffered <strong>and</strong> required to take up local redeployment before being placed on thecentral Defra <strong>Redeployment</strong> Register.8 Measures to avoid compulsory redundancy8.1 It is our policy to avoid compulsory redundancies whenever possible <strong>and</strong>various measures may be introduced to this end including:<strong>Redeployment</strong>• redeployment• voluntary redundancy• voluntary retirement• transferred redundancy.8.2 It is the Resettlement Officer’s (RO) or DM’s/line manager’s or responsibility, ifa RO is not appointed (see DM responsibilities) to place employees, who havebeen displaced following the above selection processes, on the<strong>Redeployment</strong> Register (RR) <strong>and</strong> to provide them with support.13 | P age
