the generator dielectrics. Sufficient drying to maximum dew point of -60° C (-76 degrees ° F) must be provided at the end of the drying cycleb. Drying for high pressure systems may be accomplished using heatlessdesiccant dryers only. For low pressure system, a refrigeration air dryerin series with heat-reactivated desiccant dryer shall be used.c. A refrigeration dryer capable of reducing inlet air temperature to 4° C(40° F) shall be provided for low pressure air preparation systems. Thedryer can be of the compressed refrigerant type or chilled water type.d. For heat-reactivated desiccant dryers, the unit shall contain twodesiccant filled towers complete with pressure relief valves, two fourwayvalves and a heater. In addition, external type dryers shall have acooler unit and blowers. The size of the unit shall be such that thespecified dew point will be achieved during a minimum adsorption styletime of 16 hours while operating at the maximum expected moistureloading conditions.e. Multiple air dryers shall be provided so that the ozone generation is notinterrupted in the event of dryer breakdown.g. Each dryer shall be capable of venting “dry” gas to the atmosphere, priorto the ozone generator, to allow start-up when other dryers are “on-line.”5.6.3. Air Filters.a. Air filters shall be provided on the suction side of the air compressors, between the air compressors and the dryers and between the dryers andthe ozone generators.b. The filter before the desiccant dryers shall be of the coalescing type andbe capable of removing aerosol and particulate larger than 0.3 micronsin diameter. The filter after the desiccant dryer shall be of theparticulate type and be capable of removing all particulate greater than0.1 microns in diameter, or smaller if specified by the generatormanufacturer.5.6.4. Air Preparation Piping.Piping in the air preparation system can be common grade steel, seamlesscopper, stainless steel or galvanized steel. The piping must be designed towithstand the maximum pressures in the air preparation system.Aug. 29, 2003Page 122
