2. Have the pump foundation and base designed to prevent waterfrom coming into contact with the joint.b. Avoid the use of oil lubrication. For existing wells with oillubricatedpumps and new wells where oil lubrication cannot beavoided, only food grade vegetable oil or mineral oil approved bythe ANSI/NSF shall be used.3.2.6.2. Submersible pumps.Where a submersible pump is used:a. <strong>The</strong> top of the casing shall be effectively sealed against theentrance of water under all conditions, including the vibration ormovement of conductors or cables;b. <strong>The</strong> electric cable from the pump control panel to the well shall beinstalled in electric conduit and in a manner that it does not createa fall or tripping hazard; andc. <strong>The</strong> electrical cable shall be firmly attached to the riser pipe at 20-foot intervals or less.3.2.6.3. Discharge piping.a. <strong>The</strong> discharge piping shall:1. Be restrained joint or fusion welded pipe;2. Not be solvent welded plastic or galvanized iron pipe;3. Be designed so that the friction loss will be low;4. Have the control valves and appurtenances located in a pumphouse and above the pump house floor when an above-grounddischarge is provided;5. Be protected against the entrance of contamination;6. Be equipped with a check valve, a shutoff valve, a pressuregauge, a totaling water meter, and a sampling tap located at apoint where positive pressure is maintained;7. Where applicable, be equipped with an air release and vacuumrelief valve located upstream from the check valve; withexhaust and relief piping terminating in a down-turned positionat least 18 inches above the floor and covered with an 18-meshcorrosion resistant screen;8 Be valved to permit test pumping and control of each well;9. Have all exposed piping, valves and appurtenances protectedagainst physical damage and freezing;10. Be properly anchored to prevent movement and be properlysupported to prevent excessive bending <strong>for</strong>ces; and11. Be protected against surge or water hammer.b. <strong>The</strong> discharge piping should be provided with a means of pumpingto waste, but shall not be directly connected to a sewer.Aug. 29, 2003Page 42
