The STPCD recognises that meetings can bedetrimental to a teacher’s work/life balance. Representativesshould attempt to ensure that:l all after-school meetings appear on the year’s calendar ofevents planned before the commencement of eachacademic year, as required by the STPCD, and that no newmeetings are called, except in a genuine emergency;l ● class teachers are not called upon to attend more than onemanagement-organised meeting a week, that all meetingsare justifiable and that where there is insufficient business, meetings are cancelled;l ● no after-school meeting takes place in a week during whichthere is a parent consultation meeting planned;l ● every after-school meeting has a published starting andfinishing time (no longer than one hour) and that these areadhered to;l ● all meetings are counted against the 1,265 hours of directedtime within 195 days;l ● all meetings have a published agenda, circulated in sufficienttime to enable teachers to participate effectively in thebusiness;l ● meetings are confined to proper business. For example, nostaff or department meeting should be engaged indetermining teachers’ conditions of service, includingmatters such as redundancy;l ● for individual teachers, a reasonable balance is struckbetween the requirement for them to attend meetings andtheir other professional and domestic commitments.Particular attention should be paid to the STPCD provisionsand guidance relating to part-time teachers in this respect.Further InformationMinibus safety: ACode of Practice(RoSPA/CTA)Driver Licensing forMinibusesMinibuses and theLawCommunity TransportAssociation, Highbank,Halton Street, Hyde,Cheshire SK14 2NY0161 351 1475www.ctauk.orgThe CTA publishesessential informationand advice on thecomplex issues oflicensing, etc.DVLA:www.dvla.gov.ukDriving the School orCollege Minibus andTransporting Pupils(NASUWT)Part-time teachers should not have a greater proportion of theirdirected time allocated outside of their normal sessions thanfull-time teachers.NASUWT Representatives should be aware that theseconditions of service provisions are now subject to nationalaction instructions, and reference should be made to thoseinstructions before advice is given to members or beforeentering into any negotiations on them. For advice and help ˚ Local Association ˚ Regional Centre ˚ National Executive
