Take advice from your Local Association Secretary prior toacting on this issue.2. Seek to negotiate with your headteacher to:2 review, republish and enforce the school behaviourmanagement policy;2 formulate a code of conduct and communicate tostudents and parents an unequivocal commitment toexclude pupils who fail to adhere to it;2 establish a policy of zero tolerance of verbal abuseenforced through exclusion;2 resist attempts to use parental complaints to undermineteachers;2 train all staff (including the senior management team(SMT)) in techniques for the avoidance and managementof violent and disruptive pupil behaviour;2 place a trained SMT member on standby at all times forintervention in disruptive incidents;2 have SMT members available to support teaching staffexperiencing pupil behaviour problems;2 seek to secure orders banning identified parents andintruders under Section 547 of the Education Act 1996.3. Advise members to:2 ensure that the employer reports all incidents of actual orthreatened assault and/or criminal damage to the police.If the employer refuses to do this, then the membershould report it, preferably within 48 hours. The<strong>NASUWT</strong> Local Association Secretary should beinformed;2 report all actual or threatened assaults andconfrontational incidents causing stress through theworkplace accident reporting procedure;2 report all actual or threatened assaults andconfrontational incidents causing stress through theDepartment for Work and Pensions (DWP) form BI100Aand the RIDDOR reporting procedure.4. In the event of management failure to establish a safeworking environment, the <strong>NASUWT</strong> Representative should:2 make a formal request for the risk assessment of theconduct of pupils who repeat violent and disruptivebehaviour;For advice and help ˚ Local Association ˚ Regional/National Centre ˚ National Executive
