pSHIELD<strong>System</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>Design</strong>PUFigure46 – pSHIELD Adapter component architecture• The pSHIELDNode Adapter includes a set of Innovative SPDfunctionalities interoperatingwith the legacyESD node capabilities (using the NC interface) in order to enhance them with thepSHIELD Node layer SPDenabling technologies (such as FPGA Firmwareand LightweightAsymmetric Cryptography). This adapter is in charge to provide(through the pS-NC interface)all the needed information to the pSHIELD Middleware adapter toenable the SPD composabilityofthe Node layer legacy and Node pSHIELD-specific functionalities. Moreover, the pSHIELDNode Adaptertranslates the technology independent commands, configurations and decisionscoming from the pS-NC interface into technology dependent ones and enforce them also to thelegacy Node functionalitiesthrough the NC interface.• The pSHIELD Network Adapter includes a set of Innovative SPDfunctionalities interoperatingwith the legacyESD network services (through the NS interface) and the pSHIELD Node Adapter(through the pS-NC interface) in order to enhance them with thepSHIELD Network layerSPDenabling technologies (such as Smart Transmission). This adapter is also incharge to provide(through the pS-NS interface) all the needed information to the pSHIELD Middleware adapter toenable the SPD composability of the Network layer legacy and Network pSHIELD-specificfunctionalities.Moreover, the pSHIELD Network Adapter translates the technology independentcommands, configurationsand decisions coming from the pS-NS interface into technologydependent ones and enforce them also to the legacy Network functionalities through the NSinterface.• The pSHIELDMiddlewaree Adapter which can be further partitioned in the Core SPD servicesand in the Innovative SPD functionalities. These two components are linked through the pS-MSinterface. The figure below shows the pSHIELD Middleware Adapter component architecture.• The Core SPD Services are in charge to discover all the available functionalities at Node,Network and Middleware layers and to describe themin a technology-independent fashion. All theinformation is sent to the Overlay through the pS-MS interface. ThepSHIELD Middleware Adaptershould also carry into operation the decisions taken by the Overlayand communicated via the pS-MS interface by actually composing the discovered SPD functionalities. The pSHIELD MiddlewareAdapter includes a set of Innovative SPD functionalities interoperating with the legacyESDmiddleware services (through the MSinterface) in order to make them discoverablee andcomposable SPD functionalities.The second of the following figures shows the pS-ESD architecture. As expected, a pS-ESD is anenhancedL-ESD with some additional pSHIELDcapabilities: the ones provided by thepSHIELD Adaptercomponent. However, the pS-ESD is not equipped with a Security Agent (otherwise it would have becomea pS-SPD-ESD).PUD2.3.2Issue 5Page 114 of 122
