LiIILPlants providing nourishment : Comarum palustre.Frequency: Not rare, but tied to a certain type of biotope.Few in numbers on most localities. - D e n m a r k : very rare,only three specimens are known (Lundbeck 1916). Torp Pedersenhas caught a fourth specimen at Skjzrsg on 15. 6. 1964 (personalcommunication 1966). - G r e a t B r i t a i n : "Rare"(Coe 1953).Distribution : "Scandinavia" (Sack 1932). - "Southern Sweden,Finland and Denmark" (~undbeck 1916). The species isalso reported from Great Britain (Coe 1953).H. Lineatus Fabr.Localities: 0ksnevad 24/6-63 (30), 1717 -63 (I), 21/6-64 (4), 24/6-64(12), 1417 -64 (15), Sele 1817 -64 (3), 1217 -65 (I), Austrgtt 20/6 -63 (I),1816 -64 (2), 22/6 -64 (I), Brgstein 2516 -62 (1).Biotopes: Seems to be strongly attached to humid biotopes,like H. consirnilis and H. LunuLatus, and is only exceptionallyand in small numbers caught in drier localities.Plants providing nourishment: Ranunculus acris - Comarunzpalustre. 5 and 34 individuals respectively were caught on theseplants (in blooms).Frequency: Frequent, in some places fairly abundant. -D e n m a r k : Common (Lundbeck 1916 and Torp Pedersen1964). - G r e a t B r j t a i n : "Frequent, in marshy localities"(Coe 1953).Distinguishing characteristics : As already stated, the smallerHeLo$hiLus species have a characteristic high flight sound whichcan be heard from quite a distance. This applies also to H. Lineatus,the sound being particularly strong when the insect is flyingabout reconnoitring among marsh vegetation. "Piping" notes,made by the plumula while the animal is resting, are commonamongst the HeloPhilus species, perhaps especially so among thisand the following species.Distribution: "Europa, America sept." (Sack 1932). - InEurope towards the north to northern Sweden and in Finland(Lundbeck 1916).H. lunulatus Meig.Localities: 0ksnevad 2416 -63 (2), 2416 -64 (I), 1417 -64 (I), 118 -64(I), 2/8-64 (I), Gimra 11/7-64 (2), 5/7-65 (I), Bratteb~r 3/7-63 (6),617 -64 (6), 1017 -64 (4), 1217 -64 (3), 4/6-65 (I), 617 -65 (I), 717 -65(I), 817 -65 (3).- Biotopes: See under H. lilzeatus.Plants providing nourishment: Comarum palustre -- Taraxacumsp. On these 21 and 1 specimens respectively were caught.
