TIGARD PARK SYSTEM MASTER PLAN UPDATEPARK DESIGN GUIDELINESDesign and development guidelines are intended to provide planning andsite programming guidance and direction. Because site conditions andcharacteristics vary these guidelines are not intended to override sitespecific concerns or judgments. For example, during the design <strong>of</strong> aspecific park, if community preferences differ from the guidelines but areconsistent with park function and the overall guidance <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Plan</strong>, citizenpreferences should take precedence.For each park classification, these guidelines provide a description <strong>of</strong> theclassification, considerations for site selection, features to provide,amenities to consider, and features to avoid (if any).The “Minimum <strong>Park</strong> Features to Include” heading identifies thebasic resources that should be provided in parks <strong>of</strong> thatclassification;The “Additional <strong>Park</strong> Features to Consider” heading identifiesresources that are also appropriate within parks <strong>of</strong> thatclassification if there is space, funding or community interest; andThe “<strong>Park</strong> Features to Avoid” heading identifies resources that arenot compatible with a classification’s function.POCKET PARKPocket parks provide recreation opportunities for residents in areas notadequately served by neighborhood parks, such as town centers or areas <strong>of</strong>high density development.BenefitsProvides for the day -to-day recreational needs <strong>of</strong> residents; providesspace for community events; balances high density development andcommunicates neighborhood character.Minimum <strong>Park</strong> Features to IncludeMinimum features to include are children’s play area; at least one picnictable and one bench; ADA-compliant internal pathway system; parkidentification sign; and site furnishings (trash receptacles, bike rack, etc.)Additional <strong>Park</strong> Features to ConsiderDESIGN GUIDELINES B - 1
