TIGARD PARK SYSTEM MASTER PLAN UPDATEthe regularly scheduled <strong>Park</strong> and Recreation Advisory Boardmeeting date and time.Stakeholder Interviews – During April through June 2008, theconsultant team conducted a series <strong>of</strong> one-on-one meetings withseven stakeholders representing specific interests in the parksystem.Recreation Provider Focus Group – A focus group was conductedwith current recreation providers in <strong>Tigard</strong>. In April 2008, theconsultant team met with six individuals connected to multiplerecreation service providers. The purpose was to identify existingrecreation providers/programs, issues and needs and opportunities.KEY FINDINGSThe public involvement findings are organized into themes that will guidethe recommendations. The following are the key findings identified.<strong>Park</strong>s, open space, trails and recreation services are important to<strong>Tigard</strong> residents. On a five-point scale, 83% <strong>of</strong> questionnaire respondents indicatedthat these services are “Very Important.”Phone survey results indicated a high willingness to pay foradditional services.The benefits <strong>of</strong> parks and recreation most indicated byquestionnaire respondents included providing opportunities toenjoy the outdoors/nature and youth development.New park sites and facilities are needed in <strong>Tigard</strong>. Additional developed parks and natural areas are desired.Participants indicated that there is currently a lack <strong>of</strong> convenientfacilities.Intercept participants selected a wide variety <strong>of</strong> additionalrecreation facilities and activities that they would like to see<strong>of</strong>fered in <strong>Tigard</strong>.Small and large developed parks (supporting a variety <strong>of</strong> activitiesand providing local access) are the most needed park typesindicated in the questionnaire.26 CHAPTER 3 PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT
