IV.1Multicriterial analyseWithin this activity was developed a matrix of multicriterial indicators groupedon 4 main assessment criteria as follows: Stakeholder success, Ecological success,Learning success, River system. Each indicator must receive a value between 1 and5 corresponding to success level achieved by each restoration project: value 1represents the most unsuccessful result and value 5 is given to the most successfulresult.Stakeholder success reflects human satisfaction with restoration outcome,whereas learning success reflects advances in scientific knowledge andmanagement practices that will benefit future restoration action.Ecological success1. Guiding image exists evaluation standards should follow the principlesbelow:i. Ecological integrity. Because of strong interference from human activities, itis not possible to restore urban water ecosystems to the pristine state. Ecologicalrestoration should be based on achieving the greatest natural state for the specificregion, in reference to its natural state, with the relative ecological integrity as thetarget. The health of the ecosystem may not be the original ecosystem, but it must bea relatively complete ecosystem.ii. Management categories. In this paper, the evaluation standard is dividedinto 3 levels ‘‘healthy, critical state, unhealthy’’.iii. Objective integrity. Danube River Valley is a complex of ecosystems, andshould meet the flood control objectives, landscape function, and achieve aharmonious water–human relationship.iv. Spatial distribution. Within the context of integrated river basin ecosystemtheory, the evaluation of the ecological restoration sites should consider thecharacteristics of the different spatial components and the differences ofenvironmental problems in each area, including differences between upstream anddownstream locations and different ecosystem service function.2. Ecological improvement. Ecologically successful restoration will inducemeasurable changes in physicochemical and biological components of the targetriver or stream that move towards the agreed upon guiding image.3.
