EECONET emphasizes the importance of interconnection fragmented anddiffuse biotopes, with ecosystems in the landscape with econoomic use, significantlychanged or disturbed. EECONET can also play an important role in reducing theconsequences of global warming; many species are endangered, if they do not havenew habitats and routes to areas with suitable climatic conditions .Creating European Ecological Network is now focused on two levels:a. EECONET –European ecological network is a network of fully protected areasand other important elements in terms of biodiversity and ecosystems, atEuropean level,b. NECONET –National Ecological Network is a network of fully protected areas andother major national importance, in some cases at the multinational level. At the international conference in Maastricht "Towards a European EcologicalNetwork by protecting the natural heritage" in 1993, was defined EECONET as aneffective pan-European framework for a more effective nature conservation inEurope. Components EECONET concept became a full European biodiversityconservation strategies. Integrated in NECONET concept, the regional ecologicalnetworks will develop on specific physical and geographical units, consisting of fullyprotected areas, ecological corridors and areas of ecological restoration inanthropogenically disturbed areas. There have been declared the main strategic goals of biodiversity conservation at aconference in Maastricht, and formulated the conclusions, as follows (Bennett, 1994):a. protect and restore all key ecosystems and all important species of Europeanimportanceb. management of high nature value areas (including biodiversity) by means ofprofessional managers and extensive agriculture, forestry and fisheriessustainability.c. restoring natural processes with minimal interference with human activities acrossEurope;d. increase quality of the farm areas as a whole, including coastal areas forconservation of all ecosystem’s conditions.e. accept the principle of sustainability as the main principle for decision and actionplans.99
