Flew missions toJapan, Korea, and China to attack suchtargets as shipping, railroad bridges, airfields,factories, and barracks. Met littlefighter opposition until 8 Aug 1945 whenthe group, flying its only B-29 escort mission<strong>of</strong> the war, encountered many enemyplanes over Yawata, Japan. Received aDUC for its performance on 13 Aug 1945:while flying a long-range sweep to Korea,the group engaged a host <strong>of</strong> interceptorsand destroyed a number <strong>of</strong> them. Movedto Okinawa in Jan 1946. Znactivated on27 May 1946.Redesignated 507th Fighter Group (<strong>Air</strong>Defense). Activated on 18 Aug 1955.
