Met littlefighter opposition until 8 Aug 1945 whenthe group, flying its only B-29 escort missionof the war, encountered many enemyplanes over Yawata, Japan. Received aDUC for its performance on 13 Aug 1945:while flying a long-range sweep to Korea,the group engaged a host of interceptorsand destroyed a number of them. Movedto Okinawa in Jan 1946.
