Engagedprimarily in bombardment ofstrategic targets such as industries, oil refineries,storage plants, submarine pens,airfields, and communications centers inGermany, France, Holland, Belgium, Norway,and Poland. Specific targets includeda chemical plant in Ludwigshafen,an aircraft assembly plant in Brunswick,ball-bearing plants at Schweinfurt andLeipzig, synthetic oil refineries at Merseburgand Gelsenkirchen, marshallingyards at Hamm and Reims, and airfieldsin Mesnil au Val and Berlin. Receivedanother DUC for flying without fighterprotection into central Germany to attackvital aircraft factories on 11 Jan 1944. Onseveral occasions attacked interdictorytargets and operated in support of groundforces. Bombed V-weapon sites, airfields,

Bombed enemy positions toassist ground troops at St Lo during thebreakthrough, 24-25 Jul 1944. AttackedGerman communications and fortificationsduring the Battle of the Bulge, Dec1g44-Jan 1945. Bombed bridges and viaductsin France and Germany to aid theAllied assault across the Rhine, Feb-Mar1945. Moved to French Morocco in Jun1945. Used B-24’s inpreparing for overseas duty. Moved tothe Asiatic-Pacific Theater, Apr-May1943. Assigned to Fifth AF but attachedto Royal Australian Air Force until Jan1945. Trained Australian crews to operateB-24’s. Began combat operations in May1943 by flying armed reconnaissancepatrols. Operated from Australian basesfor a year and a half, striking enemy airfields,ground installations, shipping, andindustries in the Netherlands Indies andthe Bismarck Archipelago. Received aDUC for a series of long-range attacks on
