Flew a number of missionsagainst airfields and coastal defenses tohelp prepare for the invasion of Normandy.Supported the invasion in Jun1944 by striking road junctions, marshallingyards, bridges, and railway overpasses.Assisted ground forces at Caen and St Loin Jul and at Brest later in the summer, byhitting transportation facilities, supplydumps, radar installations, and othertargets. In spite of intense resistance, thegroup bombed bridges, railways, rollingstock, and a radar station to disrupt theenemy’s retreat through the Falaise gap,6-9 Aug 1944, and received a DUC for themissions. Assisted the airborne attack onHolland in Sep. Supported the assault onthe Siegfried Line by pounding transportation,warehouses, supply dumps, and defendedvillages in Germany. Convertedto A-26 aircraft in Nov. Attacked transportationfacilities, strong points, communicationscenters, and troop concentrationsduring the Battle of the Bulge, Dec1g44-Jan 1945.
