None.463d BOMBARDMENT GROUPConstituted as 463d BombardmentGroup (Heavy) on 19 May 1943. Activatedon I Aug 1943. Trained with B-17'sfor duty overseas. Moved to Italy, Feb-Mar 1944, and assigned to Fifteenth AF.Entered combat on 30 Mar 1944 and operatedchiefly against strategic objectives.Attacked such targets as marshalling yards,oil refineries, and aircraft factories in Italy,Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Rumania,Yugoslavia, and Greece. Receiveda DUC for bombing oil refineries at Ploestion 18 May 1944: when clouds limited visibilityto such an extent that other groupsturned back, the 463d proceeded to Ploestiand, though crippled by opposition frominterceptors and flak, rendered destructive\blows to both the target and the enemyfighters. Received second DUC for leadingthe wing through three damagingenemy attacks to bomb tank factories inBerlin on 24 Mar 1945. Also engaged ininterdictory and support missions.Bombed bridges during May and Jun 1944in the campaign for the liberation ofRome. Participated in the invasion ofSouthern France in Aug 1944 by strikingbridges, gun positions, and other targets.Hit communications such as railroadbridges, marshalling yards, and airdromesin the Balkans. Operated primarilyagainst communications in northern Italyduring Mar and Apr 1945. After V-EDay, transported personnel from Italy toCasablanca for return to the US. In&-vated in Italy on 25 Sep 1945.Redesignated 463d Troop CarrierGroup (Medium). Activated in the USon 16 Jan 1953.
