Most ofthem centered on helping Jews, who like them refused to acceptthe Israeli policy and the status quo, to prepare for the buildingof the Temple. Some of these groups were advocating theiragenda publicly, while others were preparing more quietly forthe reinstatement of the sacrificial system in a rebuilt Temple. 53Such Jews were studying the Temple rituals, manufacturingutensils to be used for sacrificial purposes according to biblicalor Talmudic measures, or trying to develop a new breed ofheifers. Christian premillennialists marveled at such groups andtheir activities, viewing them as “signs of the time,” indicationsthat the current era was ending and the apocalyptic events of theend times were coming near. 54 The Temple Institute, a museumand workshop in the Old City of Jerusalem that has housedutensils and artifacts and was reconstructed since the 1970s byJewish advocates of the building of the Temple, has become asite of pilgrimage for Christian advocates of the second coming.Christians expecting the second coming have been encouragedby the sight of Jews conscientiously preparing the implementsfor use in the Third Temple, and the visits have served toenhance the messianic faith. 55One of the Jewish groups that have established a working relationshipwith premillennialist Christians over the mutual agendaof rebuilding the Temple is the Temple Mount Faithful. Ledby Gershon Solomon, a Jerusalem lawyer, the Temple MountFaithful has been, since its inception in the 1970s, the bestknown of all the Jewish groups aiming at building the Temple.Its periodic attempts to organize prayers on the Temple Mount,not to mention its plans to install a cornerstone for the rebuiltTemple, have enjoyed much media coverage.
