Norm Hart – nominated by peak principals’ associationsDip Teach BEd St MEdNorm Hart has been president of the Australian Primary Principalscareer on Palm Island, Queensland in 1975. He was appointed as aprimary school teaching principal in 1978. Over the last thirty years hehas led small one-teacher schools through to large schools with over 700students. He has also held the positions of president of the QueenslandAssociation of State School Principals and the Australian Government Primary PrincipalsAssociation.As APPA president, Mr Hart represents principals in Government, Catholic andindependent primary schools across Australia.22 AITSL Annual Report 2011–2012
CEOMargery EvansShe has had a long career in teaching and educational leadership duringwhich she has held positions as teacher, school principal, district directorand most recently roles in senior system leadership.Education Department and was the Executive Director, HumanResources and Workforce Development in South Australia. Prior to becoming the CEOof AITSL, Ms Evans was Deputy Director General of the Western Australian Departmentof Education and Training where she was responsible for improving the performance ofpublic schools and raising standards of student achievement and teacher and schoolleader quality.Shelagh Whittleston2011. She was responsible for the early establishment and accountabilityarrangements of the organisation. Ms Whittleston led the development ofthe National Professional Standard for Principals, developed the originalAITSL corporate identity and was responsible for the communicationsand stakeholder engagement strategy.Prior to joining AITSL Ms Whittleston worked for the Australian Government Department ofEducation, Employment and Workplace Relations and held a number of senior positionsacross the three education sectors. Most recently she worked in the area of schoolspolicy and reform and led the implementation of the Digital Education Revolution andNational Computers in Schools Program.
