National Partnership on Improving TeacherQualityAccomplished and Lead teachers.AITSL commenced extensive Australia-wide consultation on a proposal for a nationallyand analysis of existing national and international practices, invited written submissions,focus group workshops, targeted meetings, and think tanks bringing together nationaland international experts.The proposal for a and Lead Teachers: Principles and Major Features was endorsed for consultationby Education Ministers in October 2011. AITSL continued to consult and work withbroader education community across Australia.Accomplished and Lead teachers on 20 April 2012 at the Standing Council on SchoolEducation and Early Childhood (SCSEEC).AITSL will develop and trial materials to support implementation.Early ChildhoodIn April 2011, the Ministerial Council requested that AITSL develop a paper settingout future work in relation to early childhood services and staff, in conjunction with theEarly Childhood Development Working Group, AEEYSOC and the Australian Children’sEducation and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).The Working Group developed a work plan to address areas such as the accreditation ofthe purposes of migration and teacher standards.AITSL and ACECQA undertook a project to explore the application of the NationalProfessional Standards for Teachers to teachers in early childhood settings. AITSL hascommissioned the development of Illustrations of Practice to demonstrate the Standardsin early childhood settings.38 AITSL Annual Report 2011–2012
