Genomic <strong>in</strong>formation ga<strong>the</strong>red by written communication with W<strong>in</strong>stanley, C, University <strong>of</strong><br />

Fur<strong>the</strong>r work could elucidate <strong>the</strong> genomic differences between <strong>the</strong> over-express<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>quorum</strong>-<strong>sens<strong>in</strong>g</strong> isolates. It would be valuable to compare <strong>the</strong> two extremes,<br />

LES431 and LESB58. LES431-<strong>in</strong>fected mice do not survive beyond 24 hours, <strong>the</strong><br />

mice have high bacterial numbers with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> lungs and <strong>the</strong> majority have<br />

bacteraemia. This is <strong>in</strong> contrast to LESB58-<strong>in</strong>fected mice, which clear <strong>the</strong> bacteria<br />

with<strong>in</strong> 48 hours and 100% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mice survive <strong>the</strong> 96 hour survival experiment. <strong>The</strong><br />

Caenorhabditis elegans model <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>fection does not differentiate between <strong>the</strong><br />

isolates (W<strong>in</strong>stanley C, University <strong>of</strong> Liverpool, unpublished), imply<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>the</strong>
