felt compelled to write this message.
The world says that beauty
is a number on a scale, the latest
fashion trend—some unattainable
standard of perfection. But
that’s not what the father says.
He says you are beautiful now
because he made you and he
never makes mistakes.
I love the lyrics, “Don’t you
realize, He’s never been unsatisfied.”
That’s an incredible
statement. How/When did you
come up with this line?
I actually co-wrote ‘Beautiful
Now’ with Sue C. Smith—who is
a phenomenal lyricist (and Christian
music legend). She threw
that line out there and I was
hooked. She is amazing. I personally
love that whole second
verse, as there is so much truth
packed in!
Who are your role models in
the Christian Industry or, who
wouldn’t you mind haven’t a
fifteen minute conversation
with?
There are so many! On the artist
side, I would have to say Michael
W. Smith and Jason Roy from
Building 429. I have so much
respect for their hearts and
relentless persistence to pursue
what God has called them to do.
On the writing side, I’d have to
say I really look up to writers like
Jason Ingram, Chris Stevens,
Tony Wood, and Sue Smith. As
far as Producers, I would say
that I have been a huge fan of
Dan Muckala’s work.
I love the fact that each of
your songs has a message. A
meaning that seems to break
beyond simply, beautiful
words and pulls the listener
into a deeper relationship with
Jesus. What is the ultimate
goal of your music that you
are hoping to reach with your
listeners?
Thank you! That is really what
I’m after as a writer and as an
artist. I want to create music for
the Kingdom—music that brings
hope, encouragement, restoration.
That’s what I love so much
about Christian music—it’s not
just a trivial lyric with a catchy
melody. It’s making music that
reflects the heart of God. Music
that builds the Kingdom--that’s
my ultimate goal!
How was it opening for King
and Country and Big Daddy
Weave?
It was awesome! Both were very
kind and gracious. These guys
are the best at what they do,
and it was an incredible honor to
share the stage with them.
When on the road, what were
challenges or blessings you
had/have to face?
Being on the road definitely has its
challenges, as well as blessings.
For us, I feel like the operational
side is the most challenging. We
typically bring a band, so there
are a lot of moving parts that we
have to manage, and it can be a
challenge just making sure that
everybody is where they need to
be, etc. I’m very thankful to have
a spouse who is great at details!
On the flip side, the road is very
fulfilling. I love meeting new
people, hearing their stories,
and getting to know their hearts.

I think your personal testimony
is powerful. What about
Michael W. Smith’s music
touched you so deeply?
What captured me is that he is
a man of God that has fully surrendered
his heart and soul to
the Lord. What you hear in his
music and his ministry is a beautiful
overflow of that surrendered
posture. I recently saw him and
Amy Grant together, and it was
an amazing night of worship. It
reminded me so much of that
night more than a decade ago
when I felt called to pursue this
ministry.
God has really opened a door
for you in the Indie Market
and now on the radio reaching
hundreds of hearts for
Christ. Where do you feel God
is bringing your music career
in the future?
I think God is definitely up to
something. I’m in a season
where He has been teaching
me, showing me how to be faithful
with the little things. I may not
know what the future holds with
my music, but I do know that it’s
my passion, it’s what I was made
to do. So I will take it one step at
a time--walking with Him, letting
Him lead. That’s where I want
to be as an artist and writer--a
heart fully surrendered.
