On Life at Home

Nabal by the morning light any
that pisseth against the wall. So
David received of her hand that
which she had brought him, and
said unto her, Go up in peace to
thine house; see, I have hearkened
to thy voice, and have
accepted thy person. And Abigail
came to Nabal; and, behold,
he held a feast in his house, like
the feast of a king; and Nabal’s
heart was merry within him, for
he was very drunken: wherefore
she told him nothing, less or
more, until the morning light. But
it came to pass in the morning,
when the wine was gone out of
Nabal, and his wife had told him
these things, that his heart died
within him, and he became as a
stone. And it came to pass about
ten days after, that the LORD
smote Nabal, that he died.”
The Lord tries to teach us
against the harm that can come
when participating in drunkenness.
I am not saying gathering
with others and having a drink.
There are many people who get
together and participate each
year to celebrate major achievements.
The Summer Olympics is
coming, the horseraces that just
passed, Wimbledon is underway
now, and many more. It is major
achievements being celebrated
for those who stand before us
and we look upon them with pride
and recognition. Does that mean
you should attend the event, and
not consume an alcoholic beverage?
No, what I am saying
is there are people – athletes,
both men and women, who have
trained for this very moment, and
the one thing they ask is for you
to recognize their talent by being
sober enough to know their face,
to say their name, and to understand
what the point system
means. Recognize the country
they are standing up for as they
compete and to be as proud of
their accomplishment- be proud
for them- as proud as they are
for having come as far as they
have. It was not an easy road,
and God has been with them
every step of the way.
Some of them have family there,
and some? Well, you are their
family, and they want you to recognize
that fact, and be honored
to be there. Family is a big part
of a person’s life. Remember
all that Job went through? Job
fought for the Lord. Job let it be
known, he loved the Lord, and
for him, no other than the Lord
would do. The Lord rewarded
him, and his family stood by
him, until. In Chapter 18-19, of
Job, the Lord showed violence
amongst the children of Job for
their wrongdoings.
While he was yet speaking, there
came also another, and said, Thy
sons and thy daughters were
eating and drinking wine in their
eldest brother’s house: And,
behold, there came a great wind
from the wilderness, and smote
the four corners of the house,
and it fell upon the young men,
and they are dead; and I only am
escaped alone to tell thee.
This was not the only account
of violence against those who
failed to follow the commandments
of the Lord, and suffered
at HIS hands, because they preferred
to drink and chance life
against death. In the Chapter of
Proverbs, Verse 4:1-17.
“Hear, ye children, the instruction
of a father, and attend to know
understanding. For I give you
good doctrine, forsake ye not my
law. For I was my father’s son,
tender and only beloved in the
sight of my mother. He taught me
also, and said unto me, Let thine
heart retain my words: keep
my commandments, and live.
Get wisdom, get understanding:
forget it not; neither decline
from the words of my mouth.
Forsake her not, and she shall
preserve thee: love her, and
she shall keep thee. Wisdom is
the principal thing; therefore get
wisdom: and with all thy getting
get understanding. Exalt her,
and she shall promote thee: she
shall bring thee to honour, when
thou dost embrace her. She
shall give to thine head an ornament
of grace: a crown of glory
shall she deliver to thee. Hear, O
my son, and receive my sayings;
and the years of thy life shall be
many. I have taught thee in the
way of wisdom; I have led thee
in right paths. When thou goest,
thy steps shall not be straitened;
and when thou runnest, thou
shalt not stumble. Take fast hold
of instruction; let her not go: keep
her; for she is thy life. Enter not
into the path of the wicked, and
go not in the way of evil men.
Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from
it, and pass away. For they sleep
not, except they have done mischief;
and their sleep is taken
away, unless they cause some
to fall. For they eat the bread of
wickedness, and drink the wine
of violence.”
The Lord is a loving God, and
HE is a peaceful God, but as a
Father, HE still must teach HIS
children lessons. They are not
always the lessons in which
we would like to receive, or HE
would like to give us, as the lessons
cause us great distress.
Lessons, they are just the same,
