err in vision, they stumble in
judgment.”
The best thing to remember
about the Lord, is any time you
participate in an event of a game,
whether you are a sideline participant,
or if you host or even
play a game at home, it is about
learning. Teaching is learning
through your actions, and there
is always an opportunity to learn
more about the Lord. Every
activity you are part of, maybe it
is a game at the church, maybe
it is a game of golf with a friend,
or maybe you and some friends
are at the “Big Game” together.
Others like my friends Hoff and
Jessica are there with Dax and
Peyton. These two are parents
and husband and wife. Everywhere
they go, they are a family,
and they are the same people
every time you see them. If you
see them at church, or at the
World Series, you will see the
same two people- a husband
and wife who are raising two
children in the eyes of God, and
in yours.
There is a lot of turmoil in the
world, and it seems to be growing
by the day. Some children
are being reared in a world,
uncertain of who they are as a
race, scared of who their parents
are, and they do not know
who they should be friends with.
Imagine how some of these kids
would feel if they saw you acting
drunken, and angry, because
your team is losing? Now is a
time more than ever, to take your
behavior as a person, as a Christian
more responsibly. Become
more of an owner of your actions
for your driving behavior. Start
treating your thoughts as if they
had come out of your mouth,
after all in the eyes and ears
of God, they did. Start playing
games such as scripture bowl,
and include it the way you want
to learn, to teach, and to be part
of this world with God at the head
of your family. It is an excellent
way to become more accountable,
starting at home. Isn’t that
where it counts the most?
My daughter recently asked
me about the Supreme Court
decision, and how some of her
friends were saying, “I am not
talking to that teenager anymore
because of how he talks, or what
she wears, or who that person
hangs out with.” “I believe that
kid has two mommies, or that kid
has two daddies.” Her concern
was brought to me as, “Momma,
I though Jesus loved us, and all
sin was the same in God’s eyes.”
It says in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
“Don’t you know that those
doing such things have no share
in the Kingdom of God? Don’t
fool yourselves. Those who live
immoral lives, who are idol worshipers,
adulterers or homosexuals—will
have no share in his
Kingdom. Neither will thieves or
greedy people, drunkards, slanderers,
or robbers.”
“I know many people who have
had their parents get divorced
because of adultery, and they
still show up at church like nothing
happened.” “I know many of
my friends who talk about their
mommas and daddies going
to the bar on the weekend and
getting drunk and some of them
say they were left home alone to
babysit their little brothers or sisters?”
“On Sunday, though, they
are teaching Sunday school?”
“I know you say we aren’t supposed
to judge, but if they are
drunkards every weekend, and
adulterers too, then how come
they are telling us we shouldn’t
be friends with people because
they have parents who are two
mommies or two daddies.” “Then
there are little kids who people
are being ugly to. “How can a
five year old child understand if
he has two mommies and why,
much less if it is wrong?” “How
can it be wrong to love somebody?”
“How can it be a sin to
love too much?” “I would think it
would be more of a sin to a hate,
but then again, a sin is a sin,
right?” The next verse I pulled
for her to read was as follows:
1 Corinthians 13:4-13
“Love is patient, love is kind. It
does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud. It does not dishonor
others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it
keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth. It always
protects, always trusts, always
hopes, always perseveres. Love
never fails. But where there are
prophecies, they will cease;
where there are tongues, they
will be stilled; where there is
knowledge, it will pass away. For
we know in part and we prophesy
in part, but when completeness
comes, what is in part
disappears. When I was a child,
I talked like a child, I thought like
a child, I reasoned like a child.
When I became a man, I put the
childhood behind me. For now
we see only a reflection as in a
mirror then we shall see face to
face. Now I know in part; then
I shall know fully, even as I am
fully known. And now these three
remain: faith, hope and love. But
