Critical Needs Alternate Route Teacher Loan/Scholarship (CNAR)Critical Needs Alternate Route Teacher Loan/Scholarship awards are made available to juniors and seniors seeking afirst bachelor’s degree at a Mississippi college or university in a program of study that will lead to an alternate routeteaching license. Recipients may fulfill the loan to service obligation by serving as a licensed classroom teacher in aMississippi public school district located in a critical teacher or subject shortage area for one year for each year of loanreceived. Recipients are NOT eligible to receive other state grant funds. Recipients receive tuition and required fees,the average cost of room and meals, plus a $500 book allowance for no more than four (4) semesters. To be eligible,students must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA, pass the Praxis I, complete entrance counseling, and be enrolled full-time orpart-time. Out-of-state students are eligible.
