Majors and Courses of InstructionPsychology336. Psychology of Physically and Behaviorally Impaired Children (Bunnell)This course discusses the development of children with both physical and emotional difficulties.In particular, we will discuss the special problems confronted by mentally retarded children, thosewith learning disabilities or who have attention deficits, children with anxiety disorders, those withspeech and language impairments, those who have perceptual disabilities, those who have conductproblems, autistic children, and those who suffer from chronic serious illnesses or who have physicaldeformities. This course is designed especially for those students who intend to work with needychildren. Prerequisites: 110 and two Tier 2 courses; education majors need only have had 110 andEDUC 251. F. Tier 3 course.337. Human Sexuality (Staff)(Not offered 2011-2012)This course provides an in-depth analysis of human sexual behavior. Topics such as the sexualresponse cycle, birth control, abortion, sexual morality, love and intimacy, sexual orientation,developmental change in sexuality, sexual dysfunctions and disabilities, prostitution, pornography,and sexual violence will be discussed. Prerequisites: 110 and two Tier 2 courses. Tier 3 course.343. Physiological Psychology (Yates)Introduction to the biological mechanisms and neural processes underlying behavior, sensoryfunctions, and internal regulation. No previous biological background necessary. The emphasis ison the relationship of neurophysiology to such basic processes as arousal, attention, motivation,learning, memory, abnormal behavior, and perception. An optional laboratory (344) is available.Prerequisites: 110 and two Tier 2 courses, or permission of instructor. F. Tier 3 course.344. Laboratory in Physiological Psychology (0.25 unit; Yates)Laboratory exercises focusing on the anatomical organization of the brain and spinal cord,histological procedures for identifying brain sections, electrophysiological assessments of neuralactivity (EEG and evoked potentials), and the behavioral effects of brain lesions and stimulation.This optional laboratory must be taken concurrently with 343 or after. F.345. Psychopharmacology (Yates)This course will involve consideration of the relationships among drugs, the nervous system,conscious experience, and behavior. The history, as well as the psychopharmacology, of a widevariety of licit and illicit substances is surveyed including alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, cocaine,amphetamines, marijuana, psychedelics, opiates, and prescription drugs. S. Prerequisites: 110 andtwo Tier 2 courses, or permission of instructor. Tier 3 course.346. Sensation and Perception (Robbins)Processes by which organisms acquire and organize sensory and perceptual information. Underlyingneural mechanisms and traditional psychophysical relationships are reviewed for the visual,auditory, tactile, olfactory, pain, and taste systems. Prerequisites: 110, two Tier 2 courses, and 200.1,243, 343, or background in Zoology. F. Tier 3 course.348. Maturity and Age(Not offered 2011-2012)The study of adulthood and aging is explored from a bio-psycho-social perspective with a focuson theoretical approaches and application.
