Expenses and Financial AidLibraries & Information ServicesLibraries &Information ServicesThe Ohio Wesleyan University Libraries & Information Services (LIS) actively supports theteaching, study, and research activities of the University. LIS serves the community of scholars byacquiring, organizing, and preserving information, and by teaching its ethical, effective use. LISprovides the campus with computer support and training.The main library, the Leon A. Beeghly Library, is open until 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. TheHobson Science Library is in the Schimmel/Conrades Science Center and the Kinnison MusicLibrary in Sanborn Hall. The collection has more than 550,000 items with a distinct rare bookcollection and one of the country’s oldest depositories of federal government publications. Alllibraries are linked by the integrated on-line catalog and circulation system, CONSORT. LIS offersnetwork access from all dorm rooms and wireless access throughout campus.The Library Café, located on the main floor of Beeghly Library, is open from 5 p.m. to midnightSunday through Thursday. Having its own outside entrance, this room and the Bashford Loungearea of Beeghly Library are available for student use 24/7.The Audio-Visual (AV) Center is located on the lower level of Beeghly Library. AV classrooms,private viewing/listening rooms, a video conference room, and a Learning Laboratory areavailable. A collection of videotapes, audio tapes, 16mm films, CD-ROMS, and DVDs supportthe curriculum. Audiovisual equipment circulates for academic and co-curricular activities. Largeformat poster printing and digital video editing services are available.All material, except for that in Special Collections or on Reserve, is on open shelves. A BrowsingCollection of popular fiction and nonfiction is located in the Bashford Lounge on the main floorof Beeghly Library. LIS currently subscribes to about 700 current periodicals and offers access tonearly 19,000 electronic journals. The library system maintains a dynamic collection of governmentdocuments to support the curriculum and information needs of the larger Delaware community.LIS uses new technologies to assist students in their research. LIS provides campus-wide access toan extensive array of electronic resources such as JSTOR, LexisNexis Academic, SciFinder Scholar,Academic Search Complete, and PsycINFO databases. The LIS home page (http://lis.owu.edu)provides access to all of these resources, as well as access OhioLINK’s Electronic Journal Centercontaining more than 8,300 journals. Most of these licensed databases are also available for useoff-campus.If the material needed is not available in our collection or through another CONSORT orOhioLINK library, we will find a library that will loan it or photocopy it using ILLiad, a state-ofthe-artinterlibrary loan service. The seamless ILLiad interface allows the submission and tracking ofrequests using a Web interface.Ohio Wesleyan University is a member of the Five Colleges of Ohio which includes DenisonUniversity, Kenyon College, Oberlin College and the College of Wooster. LIS is also a member ofOhioLINK, a state-wide consortium of academic libraries, the Oberlin Group and Consortium ofLiberal Arts Colleges, prestigious national organizations of top liberal arts colleges.LIS staff members have a strong public service orientation and are committed to teaching users toidentify and locate information as well as helping with specific research problems.
