Academic RegulationsAnd ProceduresWithdrawal from the UniversityReinstatementClassification of StudentsTransfer of CreditsWithdrawal from theUniversityStudents who find it necessary to withdraw from the University should report to a staff memberin the Registrar’s Office. A student voluntarily withdrawing by Tuesday of the second week ofclasses of a semester will have no record made for that semester’s enrollment. After Tuesday of thesecond week of classes of a semester and through the 10th week, grades of W will be recorded foreach course. After the 10th week, grades will be “WP” (withdrawn passing) or “WF” (withdrawnfailing). Withdrawal within the last week of classes or during final exams will result automaticallyin marks of F in all courses. Grades of W, WP, or WF are not counted in computing a student’scumulative average, but will appear on the student’s permanent record. See the Expenses section(beginning on page 281) of this Catalog for the refund of tuition policy.ReinstatementA student who leaves the University for academic or nonacademic reasons, except when on a leaveof absence or on a University-approved and sponsored academic program elsewhere, should applyfor reinstatement through the Office of the Registrar. An application form will be given or mailedto the student upon request to the Office of the Registrar. The reinstatement application must bereturned to the Office of the Registrar at least one month prior to the semester in which the studentwishes to be reinstated.Upon receipt of the student’s formal application for reinstatement and all other informationpertinent to the decision-making process concerning reinstatement, the Academic StatusCommittee will determine whether the student will be reinstated. The decision of the Committeeis final and cannot be appealed except in the case of procedural error. If a student’s petition forreinstatement for a given semester is denied, that student may again apply for reinstatement for afuture semester when the student has a stronger case to support his/her reinstatement.A student who has been dismissed three times is not eligible to apply for reinstatement.Classification ofStudentsOhio Wesleyan students are classified according to the number of graduation units completed.These classifications are:FreshmanSophomoreJuniorSeniorFewer than 7 units of credit7 or more but fewer than 15 units15 or more but fewer than 23 units23 or more unitsTransfer of CreditsUnder certain conditions, Ohio Wesleyan will award transfer credit for work taken at anothercollege or university. The other college or university must be accredited by a national accreditingagency, the student’s performance in the course must be at C- or better, and the course must beconsistent with the liberal arts.24
