Cowley expandsBusiness & Industry Instituteat Strother FieldIn mid- 1997, Cowley leasedand remodeled the Great ScottCommunications facility locatedat Strother Field. The Business &Industry Institute, located atFourth and Tupper, now has threeclassrooms, three offices, and areception area. Also located in thefacility are a computer lab and acomputer skills improvementlearning lab. A new entrance reallygives a great appearance.Also located in the facility isthe Career Center of the KansasDepartment of Human Resources."We are proud of our newfacility and the partnership wehave developed with business andindustry," said Gene Cole, associatedean of business and industry."We are equally proud of our personnel,Tracey Williams as receptionistand secretary and TammyBarnaby as our coordinator of thelearning lab and testing."Following is a synopsis ofthe partnering Cowley has witharea business and industry:General Electric — GE continuesto be an excellent partnerwith Cowley with training for allemployees including manuals,computer skills, Inspection 301, Train the Trainer, and E.H.S. GE has assisted Cowley in installing a computerlearning lab. This computer lab assisted all companies to improve all types of skills.Cowley also supports GE in pre-employment testing and pre-employment training as needed.Rubbermaid — Cowley and Rubbermaid continue the partnership with the certification programs forTech I. The certificate was developed to assist to improve skills of the Techs. Cowley also developed a"Change" course for all associates of Rubbermaid with the assistance of plant manager Sheldon Zaklowand human resource manager Thorn Weiss. According to Cole, this has been a major undertaking forRubbermaid and the college, and we both are really happy with these results. Cowley also has classes in"Train the Trainer" and Interviewer training.Calmar — Calmar is a new industry located in the Casco facility at Winfield. Cowley has assistedCalmar in pre-employment testing for hiring and also will be assisting in profiling and assisting Calmar inestablishing new pre-employment testing to be used at the Winfield location.
