Student off the YearAmandaAnstine, a computer science andmath major from Geuda Springs, waspresented the Outstanding Student ofthe Year Award on April 12, 2000,during Cowley's annual Honors & AwardsBanquet in the Earle N. Wright CommunityRoom.e©r©r©Approximately 180 peopleattended the event, whichhighlighted students' academicand extracurricular accomplishmentsduring the 1999-2000 academic year.Anstine, the daughter ofBetty and Gary Anstine, waspresident of the StudentGovernment Association atCowley last year, and was amember of Phi Theta Kappa,was a Student Ambassador,and has maintained a 4.0grade-point average eachsemester. She also was a memberof the college's PeersAdvocating Wellness forStudents, and held a studentposition on the QualityLeadership Council andStudent Affairs Committee.She also was a member of theNorth American Limousine Jr.Association.Anstine is a big sister inthe Big Brothers/Big Sisters ofCowley County, served as a volunteerfreshman volleyballcoach at Arkansas City HighSchool, and isa member ofSacred Heart Catholic Churchin Ark City.She and fellow studentScott Keltner of MedicineLodge were Cowley's representativeson the All-KansasAcademic Team for 2000.Maggie Picking, vice presidentof student affairs atCowley, praised Anstine for herleadership and involvement."She's always smiling, hasa friendly hello, or just askshow you are doing when yousee her on campus," Pickingsaid. "She's been a true assetto our campus as a student andissomeone who will alwaysremember her educationalgoals began at Cowley College."Anstine received severalawards during the banquet.Besides being named Studentof the year, she was awardedfor being named MarchStudent of the Month for thesecond consecutive year.
