The building was a prison in the 15th century, and the then-ruling Spanish mistook the Flemish word for “prison”
to mean “friend” (amigo). Since then, “Amigo” came to be the name for this building. In 1957, the Blaton family
reconstructed the building and turned it into a hotel. The Blatons kept the name of “Amigo” and coincidentally, the name
suits the spirit of the hotel perfectly.

The greatest asset of Hotel Amigo is its excellent staff. The staff
often receives political leaders from various countries in the
world, as well as royalty and movie stars. At the hotel bar you can
find signatures from famous people, including German Chancellor,
Ms. Merkel, and the Italian president. They also have pictures of
Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and Nicole Kidman. All these guests
take Hotel Amigo as their first choice due to the top quality service
provided by a most experienced concierge team.
The hotel manager says that the concierge team gives exceptional
service, “They have been working here for many years. They know
how to serve all the guests.” They will greet and ask after every
single guest, and establish good relationships with them. They will
even know what you want before you say so.
Hotel Amigo’s front desk reception team has worked there for 43
years. To them, Hotel Amigo is their workplace family. Even when
all the hotels are cutting down their staff because of the charges in
Brussels, Hotel Amigo kept all of their 66 employees. This makes
Hotel Amigo the most staffed hotel in Brussels.
In the year 2000, the English luxury-hotel chain Rocco Forte Hotels
bought Hotel Amigo. Remodeled with a fantastic look from
hotel designer Ms. Olga Polizzi, Hotel Amigo embraced Flemish
cultural elements, which closely connects the hotel with Belgium’s
culture and history. You will find the clean-lined style of the elegant
Flemish tradition, refined Belgian linens, embroidered silk
curtains, Marcel Broodthaers’s poems, and René Magritte’s art-
