4.9.7 Disqualification<br />

If an anti-dop<strong>in</strong>g rule violation occurs dur<strong>in</strong>g or <strong>in</strong> connection with a sports event,<br />

the rul<strong>in</strong>g body may disqualify the athlete of all <strong>in</strong>dividual results obta<strong>in</strong>ed at that<br />

event with all consequences, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g forfeiture of all medals, po<strong>in</strong>ts, and prizes.<br />

4.9.8 Ineligibility<br />

Table 4.3 shows the duration of <strong>in</strong>eligibility applied to anti-dop<strong>in</strong>g rule violations [23] .<br />

4.9.9 <strong>Nutrition</strong>al Supplements and Potential Risk of Dop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Many athletes use supplements <strong>in</strong> an attempt to enhance performance without contraven<strong>in</strong>g<br />

WADA rules. Unlike drugs, nutritional supplements are not required to have<br />

scientific and cl<strong>in</strong>ical evidence that they are safe and effective before market<strong>in</strong>g [45] .<br />

There may be no legal requirement for manufacturers to list the content of nutritional<br />

supplements, and so they frequently make unsubstantiated claims that their<br />

products have ergogenic properties, mak<strong>in</strong>g it difficult for an athlete to conclude<br />

whether tak<strong>in</strong>g such a product would contravene the dop<strong>in</strong>g regulations. There are<br />

many preparations that may conta<strong>in</strong> banned drugs [26] .<br />
