Students will begin working on a body<br />

of images that reflects their artistic<br />

interests. Creative decision-making,<br />

problem solving, and the relationship<br />

between personal vision and<br />

contemporary art practice will all be<br />

explored. Through discussion, research,<br />

essay writing, critique, and creative<br />

response, students will engage in a<br />

critical dialog with the work of their<br />

peers and recognized contemporary<br />

artists in order to inform their own<br />

creative process. Prerequisites: SA 161<br />

SA 276 Computer Imaging<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

This course covers theory and practice<br />

of digital imaging in a creative context.<br />

Technical skills are developed with an<br />

emphasis on using digital tools to begin<br />

creating a personal vision. Students<br />

learn how to capture, control,<br />

manipulate and print digital images<br />

using Adobe Photoshop, a desktop<br />

computer, analog and digital cameras,<br />

scanners, desktop and large format<br />

printers. Students learn Photoshop<br />

technique by completing a series of<br />

assignments and exercises that cover<br />

basics of digital imaging theory, digital<br />

camera RAW file adjustments and<br />

management, image sizing and<br />

resolution, basic image control, tonal<br />

and color correction, retouching, hand<br />

coloring, sharpening, noise<br />

management, filtering, addition of text,<br />

creative selection, contrast masking,<br />

layer masks, collage and montage<br />

techniques, and more. Prerequisite: SA<br />

161 Photography I<br />

SA 309 Special Topics in the Arts<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

This is a repeatable course in which the<br />

content varies each year. Different<br />

faculty from a variety of programs<br />

across the <strong>College</strong> may teach this<br />

rotating course. The content depends<br />

on the faculty member's expertise and<br />

the needs and interests of the student<br />

population. Potential topics include a<br />

mix of SA and FA courses: Art and<br />

Autobiography, Art and Politics,<br />

Museum as Medium, the Landscape<br />

Tradition, Photo-based Installation Art,<br />

Mural Painting, Public Art, Artist's<br />

Books, Sports Photography, and<br />

Fashion Photography. Prerequisites<br />

may be necessary for certain offerings.<br />

SA 311 Life Drawing and 3-D Forms<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

This course explores the relationship<br />

between two- and three-dimensional<br />

representation of the human form.<br />

Students draw and sculpt the figure,<br />

concentrating on proportion and<br />

anatomy. Emphasis is on personal<br />

artistic growth as well as process,<br />

technique and content. For advanced<br />

work in figure drawing, this course can<br />

be "stacked‖ (taken multiple times by<br />

taking Research Topics in the Visual<br />

Arts FA371/372/471 or 472). (Offered<br />

spring term) Prerequisite: SA 211 Figure<br />
