Deliver High Quality High Performance HEVC via Intel® Media Server Studio

HEVC Software Encoder Performance for 4:2:0 8-bit Content
We first measure encoding speed (fps) of Media Server Studio HEVC Software Encoder in TU1 (highest
quality) mode and MPEG HEVC HM14 on different resolution test sets. Results of these measurements
comparing the two speeds are shown in Fig. 7A.

From Figure 7A it can be seen that the encoding speed of the TU1 mode is 100 to 141 times (multithreaded
on 4 cores) the speed of HM14 (single threaded/1 core) for the 4 resolution test sets. For 1080p content,
TU1 is 141 times faster than HM14. Earlier we had shown that the quality of TU1 mode was nearly identical
(only around 0-2% less in BD rate) with respect to HM14.
Next in Table 3A-3D we show measurement of encoding speed of Media Server Studio HEVC Software
Encoder on each sequence of all four resolution test sets in each of four TU1, TU4, TU7, and TU7gacc
modes.
