Standards for Mathematical
Content
The math content standards focus on three main things:
1. A deep focus on key math skills and knowledge for each grade,
2. Mastery of math concepts by building skills throughout the year and
from one grade to the next, and
3. Rigorous work to encourage deep learning and relevant connections.
The Standards for Mathematical Content describe key topics that students
need to learn in each grade. Standards for each grade build on each other
rather than repeating year after year. The table below shows how the
standards connect within and across grade levels and topics.
