F<strong>in</strong>al Height Achieved <strong>in</strong> Children & Adolescents treated for Type 1 <strong>Diabetes</strong><br />

**type 1 diabetes <strong>in</strong> children is well known to adversely affect l<strong>in</strong>ear growth and pubertal<br />
development. <strong>in</strong> the years immediately follow<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>troduction of <strong>in</strong>sul<strong>in</strong> therapy, short stature<br />
was consistently reported <strong>in</strong> children with type1 <strong>Diabetes</strong>. however, over the past 50 years<br />
significant improvement <strong>in</strong> the prognosis for growth & f<strong>in</strong>al height <strong>in</strong> children with diabetes has<br />
been achieved.<br />
**this study aimed <strong>in</strong> our study to assess the effect of diabetes on f<strong>in</strong>al height <strong>in</strong> Libyan children<br />
treated for the disease.<br />
**200 Libyan children with type 1 diabetes were selected randomly (88 male & 112 female) who<br />
were treated and be<strong>in</strong>g followed up <strong>in</strong> our centre from the onset of their diabetes till they have<br />
f<strong>in</strong>ished their growth and achieved f<strong>in</strong>al adult height.<br />
this study was performed <strong>in</strong> order to evaluate the effect of duration of diabetes, <strong>in</strong>sul<strong>in</strong> dose, and<br />
glycemic control on f<strong>in</strong>al height. the effect of associated autoimmune diseases was analyzed, so<br />
also the effect of diabetic complications.<br />
**Modern diabetes care, and thorough education with new <strong>in</strong>sul<strong>in</strong> regimens therapy, might<br />
improve metabolic control <strong>in</strong> patients with type 1 diabetes, and substantially improved the<br />
prognosis for growth & f<strong>in</strong>al height.<br />
