Mayor’s Introduction
I trust Kingborough Council’s 2016/17 Annual Plan is of benefit to you.
Councils need to be open and accountable to their communities, and the Annual Plan outlines our goals and
strategies for the financial year ahead.
It’s shaped by our broader Strategic Plan, which involved major community consultation about residents’
values and priorities.
The Annual Plan contains:
The 2016/17 Budget Estimates;
Information on programs and projects for the year ahead;
A detailed breakdown of Council services and how we’ll fund them.
As a Council, we pride ourselves on supporting a strong quality of life for Kingborough residents. We provide
many unique or rare Council services – like the sports centre, family day care, aged respite centre, and
volunteer program – which play a vital role in many residents’ lives.
This is both a very exciting and challenging time for Kingborough.
Kingborough’s continued growth brings great opportunities and vibrancy to our community. But meeting the
immense need for more and better services and facilities on our limited budgets will also be a huge challenge.
Council has adopted an infrastructure works and maintenance program worth approximately $21.5 million,
which includes the increased expenditure on the resealing of roads, sealed road maintenance and re-sheeting
of gravel roads, the introduction of new facilities and the maintenance of existing assets to support future
growth.
The Council’s former Kingston High School redevelopment is moving forward this year with the construction of
a road network and design of the community hub. This is a development of state significance and will be a
focal point for visitors to Kingborough as well as generate greater social interaction and community pride. This
project will lay the foundation for a more secure and prosperous Kingborough community.
Through our leadership, service and decision-making, your Council is focused on guiding the municipality
securely through our challenges, while maintaining Kingborough as a thriving, vibrant and connected
community that we are all delighted to call home.
I encourage you make the most of what’s good and special about Kingborough life, and liaise actively with your
Council in the financial year ahead.
