4.6 Grants – Operating
Operating grants are funds received from both the State and Federal Government for the purpose of
delivering Council services.
A breakdown of the 2016/17 grants is shown in the below table.

Financial assistance grants are allocated by the Tasmanian Grants Commission and are used to fund
Council operations.
Total grants for 2016/17 are estimated to increase by $1.04M compared to the 2015/16 forecast
primarily due to grants being prepaid in the 2014/15 year, resulting in less being received during the
2015/16 year.
4.7 Other Revenue
Other estimated Council revenue for 2016/17 of $2.58M comprises:
Government rates remission reimbursements ($1.09M);
Contributions ($0.22M);
Reimbursement for State Government works ($0.54M);
Private works income ($0.12M);
Motor tax reimbursement ($0.13M);
Interest on overdue accounts ($0.07M); and
Other sundry receipts ($0.54M).
Other revenue for 2016/17 will increase $78,000 compared to the 2015/16 forecast primarily due to
the estimated increase in State Government works on Bruny Island.
4.8 Interest and Dividends
Estimated interest income for 2016/17 of $0.25M is derived from Council’s investment portfolio at
market rates. Council’s expected cash position throughout 2016/17 is used to estimate the interest
income for the coming year. The key factors influencing the level of interest income include the level
of unspent capital and reserve funds and the interest rate. The level of 2016/17 interest income is
estimated to be below the 2015/16 forecast due to the reduction in interest rates over the past
twelve months.
