CRIME PREVENTION TIPS/ADVICE – MESSAGE FROM YOUR LOCAL POLICE FORCE
DARK NIGHTS
With the dark nights getting longer it is important to keep your home secure.
Keeping your home secure can be easily done. Here are a few tips in how you
do that:
Always lock your doors even when you are inside
Set alarms when leaving the home
Never leave a spare key outside the house
Set up or join a Home Watch scheme in your neighbourhood
Keep valuables out of view
BONFIRE NIGHT
Bonfire night can be spectacular with amazing public displays or enjoyed with
something smaller in private at home.
It is important to keep safe and to be considerate of others. One way this can
be done is by adhering to the curfew which is 1am on bonfire night but is
otherwise generally 7am-11pm. This prevents disruption to others with loud
noises and bright lights.
It is also important to note that fireworks can only be purchased and used by
persons who are 18 and over. And that all fireworks are used responsibly and
for their intended purposes indicated on the packaging.
HALLOWEEN – HOW TO HAVE FUN BUT BE SAFE
Halloween is a night when everyone can have great fun with friends and
family. However as it is dark it is very important to be safe and also
considerate of the people around you when trick or treating.
One way of keeping safe is making sure that children are always accompanied
by an adult. In addition it is important that they do not approach strangers
and only knock on the doors of people they know. As it is very dark, visibility
is vital and bright clothes should be worn, and road safety should be adhered
to.
Another thing to be wary of is keeping tricks safe
and fun. It is important to remember that any
damage caused to property is a crime.
DEFROSTING CARS
Protect your frost covered vehicles from
opportunist thieves. We would like to remind
motorists not to leave their vehicles with the
keys in the ignition while the vehicles defrost.
Thieves are known to target residential
areas on cold and frosty mornings
looking for cars where the
owner has started the
engine to defrost the
windscreen and then
returned inside, leaving
the car unattended.
