6.9 Identity management services<br />

6.9.1 MAP-PROVIDE-IMSI service<br />

6.9.1.1 Definition<br />

This service is used by a VLR in order to get, via the MSC, the IMSI of a subscriber (e.g. when a<br />

subscriber has identified itself with a TMSI not allocated to any subscriber in the VLR).<br />

It is a confirmed service and consists of the primitives shown in table 6.9/1.<br />

This parameter is received when the request is successfully carried out. It contains the requested IMSI.<br />

- Absent subscriber.<br />

6.9.2 MAP-FORWARD-NEW-TMSI service<br />

6.9.2.1 Definition<br />

This service is used by a VLR to allocate, via MSC, a new TMSI to a subscriber during an ongoing<br />

transaction (e.g. call set-up, location updating or supplementary services operation).<br />

It is a confirmed service and consists of the primitives shown in table 6.9/2.
