6.6 Security management services<br />

6.6.1 MAP_SET_CIPHERING_MODE service<br />

6.6.1.1 Definitions<br />

This service is used between the VLR and the MSC to set the ciphering mode and to start ciphering if<br />

applicable. It is called when another service requires that information is to be sent on the radio path in<br />

encrypted form.<br />

The service is a non-confirmed service and consists of two service primitives.<br />

6.7 International mobile equipment identities management services<br />

6.7.1 MAP_CHECK_IMEI service<br />

6.7.1.1 Definition<br />

This service is used between the VLR and the MSC and between the MSC and the EIR to request check<br />

of IMEI. If the IMEI is not available in the MSC, it is requested from the MS and transferred to the EIR in<br />

the service request.<br />

The service is a confirmed service and consists of four service primitives.
