Overlooking the mighty Ohio River, this majestic location has been preserved since 1908, when it became<br />

<strong>Illinois</strong>’ first state park. A replica <strong>of</strong> the original 1802 American Fort is on site, along with an interpreter to<br />

explain the Native American artifacts and military memorabilia. Activities include camping, hiking, a Forest<br />

Watch Tree Identification trail, boating and fishing on the Ohio River, and special living history events<br />

throughout the year.<br />

Fountain Bluff Indian Carvings<br />

Prehistoric dwellers left their mark on the rock walls <strong>of</strong> Fountain Bluff at the north end <strong>of</strong> Big Hill about a mile<br />

southwest <strong>of</strong> Gorham. The mysterious carvings depict wolves, birds, deer, human forms, crosses, circles and<br />

other geometric figures.<br />
