The Institute includes archives and a museum, both devoted to American Lutheran history. The tour gives a<br />
brief overview <strong>of</strong> the museum, a twenty-minute investigation <strong>of</strong> the archives, and concludes with the visitor's<br />
self-guided tour in the museum. There is a small museum shop with items for sale related to our collection.<br />

The Eugene Field House and St. Louis Toy Museum is the birthplace and childhood home <strong>of</strong> Eugene Field,<br />
known as the “Children’s Poet” It is also the home <strong>of</strong> his father, Roswell Martin Field, the lawyer who<br />
represented Dred Scott and his family when they were suing for their freedom.<br />
<strong>Tours</strong> <strong>of</strong>fered:<br />
General tour: Covers all areas <strong>of</strong> the history <strong>of</strong> the house and its people. Can be adapted to suit any age.<br />
African-American History: Roswell M. Field, Dred Scott and St. Louis African-American history up to the Civil<br />
War. Presented for <strong>Girl</strong> Scout Juniors through <strong>Girl</strong> Scout Ambassadors.<br />
Topic <strong>Tours</strong>: on the subject your troop is studying, within the scope <strong>of</strong> the museum’s collections (must be<br />
booked at least one month before date <strong>of</strong> visit).<br />

Missouri’s early legislators met here from June 4, 1821 – Oct. 1, 1826, while a new Capitol was being built in<br />
Jefferson City. The building, fully restored, contains two residences, a general store, legislative chambers, a<br />
committee room, the first Governor’s <strong>of</strong>fice and an interpretative center with exhibits.<br />
