Responsibility at Finavia A part of society Safety Staff wellbeing Environmental responsibility GRI Finavia as a taxpayer Every year, Finavia’s business operations accumulate revenues for the taxation authorities in the form of various taxes and tax-like levies. In 2016, we paid and accounted for a total of EUR 85.8 million (83.8) in taxes and tax-like levies. In 2016, Finavia received EUR 1.3 million in EU investment aid. Finavia collected and accounted for a total of EUR 51.7 million (50.4) in taxes and tax-like levies. The taxes and tax-like levies collected do not affect Finavia’s result, as the company acts as an intermediary for the charges. The taxes collected and accounted for in 2016 and 2015, do not include value-added tax. In 2016, Finavia reclaimed more VAT than it collected and accounted for. Finavia only has business operations in Finland, and as a result, it pays taxes and tax-like levies to Finland, in accordance with the Finnish legislation. Finavia has not defined a separate tax strategy. At Finavia, the CFO is responsible for tax-related matters. If necessary, the CFO reports to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors on tax-related matters. Furthermore. if necessary, Finavia may purchase taxation-related expert services and ask the tax authorities for a preliminary ruling in matters subject to interpretation. Finavia’s tax-related reporting does not include any evaluations. Finavia Group only has operations in Finland. The Group paid all its taxes to Finland, as it did the previous year. In 2016, Finavia’s payable taxes and tax-like levies totalled EUR 34.1 million (33.4). Finavia does not pay or account for taxes paid to tax haven countries defined by the OECD, and hasnot received support from the countries in question. The payments to Trafi include infrastructure monitoring charges and other aviation-related charges. 16% Withholding tax, taxes at source 31.5 MEUR Employee’s social security contributions 8.5 MEUR Air traffic monitoring charge 11.7 MEUR The air traffic monitoring charge is a statutory monitoring charge levied by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency Trafi, collected by Finavia and paid further to Trafi. We are actively developing flight routes and marketing them in cooperation with airlines and tourism operators. The number of direct international routes increased particularly to Lapland’s airports. However, there were big differences in the development of passenger volumes between different airports, which is explained by the changing competitive situation between different modes of transport and by differences in the attraction of different areas.
