KNA Education and Research Cabinet<br />
Purposes:<br />
Stimulate and promote the professional development of nurses.<br />
Advance the profession of nursing.<br />
Functions:<br />
Promote the dissemination of research to expand nursing knowledge.<br />
Promote the use of the ANA Code of Ethics for <strong>Nurses</strong> with Interpretative Statements (2015)<br />
in the engagement of scholarly inquiry.<br />
Act as a resource to the public regarding nursing research.<br />
Promote and provide continuing education programs that support the<br />
professional development of nurses.<br />

KNA Governmental Affairs Cabinet<br />
Purposes:<br />
The purposes of the Governmental Affairs Cabinet shall be to:<br />
Work for the improvement of health care standards.<br />
Work for the availability of health care services.<br />
Initiate and influence legislation, state and national health policy,<br />
and governmental programs.<br />
Advance the profession of nursing.<br />
Functions:<br />
Foster adherence to the “Code of Ethics for <strong>Nurses</strong>” established by ANA by reviewing<br />
policies and making recommendations for changes in public policy and legislation.<br />
Promote collaboration of KNA with other organizations on matters of mutual concern.<br />
Interpret to the public the scope of nursing practice and the roles of nurses by providing<br />
testimony, consultation, and professional expertise to governmental officials and the media.<br />
Encourage interdisciplinary collegiality by collaboration with other professionals on health<br />
care issues. Collaborate with health care consumers on the development of health and<br />
public policy through involvement in health care coalitions. Act as an advocate for the<br />
health care consumer in public forums and the media. Represent the nursing profession to<br />
allied health groups, state and national organizations, governmental bodies, and the public.<br />
